Staying fit and healthy and maintaining a busy and often stressful career can often feel like two goals that are completely at odds with one another. No one knows this better than Candy Shaw, who runs Sunlights Balayage and travels across the country sharing her knowledge with other hairdressers, all while running (and working in) her family-owned, 50 seat salon in Atlanta's ritzy Buckhead neighborhood. Despite that, she still finds time to eat well and stay active -- a quality that she's passed on to many of her employees.
With the New Year upon us, this is a great opportunity to revist an article in Modern Salon from last August on how and why she does it, and the impact it's had on her life and the lives of her stylists.
"There’s something about turning 50 that feels like a wake-up call for reviewing your lifestyle.
'When I turned 50, I realized that I was closer to the end than the beginning,' says famed Atlanta stylist Candy Shaw Codner, owner of Jamison Shaw Hairdressers and Jamison Shaw Academy. 'I wasn’t overweight; I wore a size 10. But I wanted to be flexible and in better shape. In addition to having my salon, I’m raising three kids, and I’m on the road all the time at hair shows with very early model calls. It’s hard to stay fit!!'"

If you're in the Long Beach, CA area this weekend, be sure to stop by our booth at ISSE Long Beach and say hello to Candy and the Sunlights Artisan Team!
