This past weekend, 49 trainers from 29 states, provinces, or territories in 4 different countries across 3 continents all packed up and came to Atlanta to spend a few days learning the ins and outs of the Sunlights world from The Balay Lama herself! Trainers came from as far away as Australia and Norway to take part in the event and become the newest additions to the Sunlights Artisan Team.
The weekend included Q&A sessions, sales presentations, hands-on balayage education, demonstrations, inspirational discussions, an actual llama, and of course plenty of fun and games!
Now that the weekend is over, these new members of the Sunlights family are out in the world, ready to help Paint the World Yellow. Keep your eyes peeled and you might see them leading classrooms of eager students near you soon!
This past weekend at CosmoProf Las Vegas, several companies competed in the annual Beauty Pitch competition, judged by John Paul Dejoria, co-founder and chairman of the board of John Paul Mitchell and The Patron Spirits Company; Shark Tank judge and CEO of Kevin Harrington Enterprises, Kevin Harrington; Deanne Kaczerski, Executive Director of Instyle Digital Innovation and Time Inc.; Mark Spinks, President of CosmoProf, Armstrong McCall, and Sally Beauty Holdings; and Emily Dougherty, Beauty Director of Elle Magazine.
Not only was Sunlights one of only a small handful of companies that got to present live at the event, we were the ONLY hair care company in the competition, AND the youngest. Best of all, though? Sunlights won the top spot in the Start Up category!
For winning, Sunlights was presented a $5,000 check awarded by Harlan Kirschner of The Kirschner Group. We're so excited and grateful for this wonderful honor, and can't wait to see what's next - we're painting more and more of the world yellow every day!
We at Sunlights would also like to congratulate P3Pure, who took home the prize in the Established Business category - what a wonderful night for all involved!
You can read more about the event as well as check out the other competitors at the Estetica USA site.

Don't forget that you can vote every day until the competition, so get on out their and Paint the Vote Yellow! 💛
What a week! As many of you know, yesterday was the official start of summer AND the longest day of the year - hope you all soaked up a bit of that Sunlight, too!
On the education front, Candy Shaw hosted an event right here at home in Atlanta that brought her good friends, the extremely talented Sonya Dove and Aubrey Loots, to the Peach State for an afternoon of education. Just a week before, on Monday, June 13, there were a grand total of SIX Sunlights classes across the nation. Six! Our Artisan Educators had classes from the Pacific Ocean all the way to the Atlantic, up and down the East Coast, and the day saw Candy herself teaching in Indianapolis in the Midwest.
There's no question that this really is a revolution - are you ready to join?
Last year, Candy and her team thrilled Premiere Orlando and Hair Color Stage and they're back to do it again this year! They'll be out on the show floor all weekend at Booth #5177 and on Hair Color Stage at 10:00am Sunday morning.
We aren't just hitting the stage, though: we'll be teaching two classes at the Orlando convention center this year! Our Sunday afternoon hands-on class has already sold out, but don't worry! If you weren't able to get into that class, there's still time to register and see Candy in the classroom Monday at 10:00am for a can't-miss Look & Learn!
If you're at Premiere Orlando this weekend, come catch a class or Hair Color Stage or just stop by the booth and say hi. We can't wait to see you, Balayage Believers!
It's been a very busy month for Sunlights! Last month we celebrated our very first international class (a hands-on in Quebec) and our very first Canadian tradeshow (ABA Edmonton). That's big news for any company, but we're still going - Sunlights is now available in Norway, Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden! No classes have been announced yet but you can be sure you won't have to wait long if you're waiting to get a little Sunlight in the North!
We're excited to share this development with you all! Be sure to stay up to date with our latest classes and come learn to paint your way to financial freedom - until next time, Balayage Believers!
The Balayage Revolution has been sweeping the United States for some time now and is showing no signs of slowing down, but what about the rest of the world? Our neighbors up north have been chomping at the bit for some Sunlights love and we're finally headed their way! Don't miss Candy Shaw at ABA Edmonton on Sunday, May 1! Come out to the TruBeauty booth, say hi, and learn how to paint energy into your haircuts with the Balay Lama!
If you live stateside, be sure to catch any of our talented educators' classes around the country, which are all conventiently listed on our Events page. If it's the Balay Lama you want, she and her marvelous team will be painting hair and taking names at Premiere Orlando June 5-6!
Don't live in Canada or the United States and want to Join the Revolution? Well... some things are more fun when they're a surprise, so be sure to check back often - 2016 is shaping up to be an exciting year!
Get ready, Chicago -- the Balay Lama is headed your way! ABS Chicago is one of our favorite events, and we're excited to be returning to the show floor and the classroom this year to spread a little Sunlight! Candy will be teaching two classes at this event:
Sunday, March 13 // 9:30am - 11:30am
Monday, March 14 // 10:00am - 12:00pm
If you happen to miss her in the classroom, you can stop by Booth #1427 for educational demos or just to say hello -- we'll be there all weekend! You can head over to the ABS Chicago website for tickets and more information on the event.
Look out, Ohio - the Balay Lama is on her way! She'll be spreading the sunshine in Dayton on Sunday and continuing the tour on Monday in Columbus. Don't miss out on this incredible educational opportunity! If you do miss her, there's always next weekend, where Candy and the Sunlights Artisan team will be celebrating their 2nd birthday at ABS Chicago!
In Academy news, our presitigious Atlanta Academy is now sold out completely for 2016! Thank you to all of our students, past and future, for making the journey and learning to paint their way to financial freedom! If you missed out this year, you can still submit your registration form and request to be added to the waitlist for a future class. We'll be announcing our 2017 dates later this year, so stay tuned!

Staying fit and healthy and maintaining a busy and often stressful career can often feel like two goals that are completely at odds with one another. No one knows this better than Candy Shaw, who runs Sunlights Balayage and travels across the country sharing her knowledge with other hairdressers, all while running (and working in) her family-owned, 50 seat salon in Atlanta's ritzy Buckhead neighborhood. Despite that, she still finds time to eat well and stay active -- a quality that she's passed on to many of her employees.
With the New Year upon us, this is a great opportunity to revist an article in Modern Salon from last August on how and why she does it, and the impact it's had on her life and the lives of her stylists.
"There’s something about turning 50 that feels like a wake-up call for reviewing your lifestyle.
'When I turned 50, I realized that I was closer to the end than the beginning,' says famed Atlanta stylist Candy Shaw Codner, owner of Jamison Shaw Hairdressers and Jamison Shaw Academy. 'I wasn’t overweight; I wore a size 10. But I wanted to be flexible and in better shape. In addition to having my salon, I’m raising three kids, and I’m on the road all the time at hair shows with very early model calls. It’s hard to stay fit!!'"
Candy Shaw has proudly been appointed as the New Membership Chairman for Intercoiffure America/Canada! Shaw's loyalty and dedication to this prestigious collective of North America's top salons earned her the position, and she can't wait to continue growing with ICA.
Estetica Magazine did a wonderful piece on the announcement, which can be found here.
Don't forget that a new year at Sunlights means more education! After a brief winter vacation, we're back at it on the road in 2016. Our next stop is the International Salon and Spa Expo in Long Beach, California -- we can't wait to see you there! Check our Events page for other chances to see the Balay Lama and the Sunlights Artisan Team in action near you!
